Volusia-Flagler High School Sports Awards Celebrate Exceptional Athletic Talent

In a glittering ceremony held Monday evening at the Ocean City Center, over 300 athletes from across Volusia and Flagler counties were honored for their remarkable achievements during the 2024-25 academic year. The awards spanned 27 sports categories, recognizing outstanding performers in both individual and team disciplines. Among the highlights were the Player of the Year distinctions, alongside special accolades such as the Kayne Finley Courage Award and the USA TODAY Studio IX Trailblazer Award. Renowned former Miami Marlins star Dee Strange-Gordon graced the event as the guest speaker, adding an inspiring touch to the celebrations.

Unveiling the Stars of Volusia-Flagler Athletics

The prestigious Kayne Finley Courage Award was bestowed upon Leah Stevens from Matanzas High School. Her journey back to the field after suffering a stroke and being diagnosed with a brain clot exemplifies resilience and determination. Not only did she return stronger than ever, but she also secured her place to play collegiate softball at the University of Florida.

Seabreeze High School's boys bowling team claimed the Boys Team of the Year title, marking a historic achievement by capturing their first-ever state championship. Their undefeated streak throughout the season showcased unmatched skill and teamwork. Meanwhile, New Smyrna Beach High School’s girls basketball squad took home the Girls Team of the Year award after clinching their inaugural state crown under Coach Aisha Patrick's leadership.

Colby Cronk of Flagler Palm Coast High School emerged victorious as the Boys Athlete of the Year. Known for his dominance on the football field and track, Cronk set records and will continue his athletic career at North Carolina State University. Travis Norfolk of Atlantic High School and Aisha Patrick of New Smyrna Beach High School were recognized as Boys and Girls Coaches of the Year respectively, acknowledging their pivotal roles in guiding their teams to unprecedented success.
